  1. Byte Code says:

These economy statistics for these modern vehicles is appalling. I routine get a real-world fuel economy figure of 36 Miles to the IMPERIAL (UK) Gallon of Petrol (US: Gasoline) or roughly 29.5 Miles to the US Gallon with my 10 year old MG MGF sports car.

I also get a real world fuel economy figure of 47 Miles to the Imperial (UK) Gallon of Diesel with my 15 year old Family saloon car.

The “real world” scenarios that both of these cars are used in feature a mix of short range driving of 1 to 6 miles at speeds ranging from a typical 20 mph to 50 mph) and mid range driving 26 mile trips at a typical 45 mph to 70 mph, in the rolling Cornish country side of the United Kingdom.

Both cars are driven with quick acceleration and could therefore achieve better fuel economy if I chose to drive with a “less heavy right foot”.

It never fails to amaze me how poor these “modern” cars are fuel economy-wise. It amazes me that the attitudes towards fuel and fuel economy in the United States of America is especially wasteful through the choice of vehicles.

A little surprised not to see any Acuras here.

  3. Anonomouse says:

How exactly does the author of this article figure that the BMW 128i is “one of the best gas mileage cars you can find today” when it’s rated at 18 City/28 Hwy MPG?? That’s HORRIBLE mileage!!

  4. Scott B. says:

2009-present Nissan Maxima beats most cars on that list for speed and fuel efficiency. Why is it absent??
