Tata Motors is all-set to officially launch their first compact SUV Tata Nexon on 21st September 2017 in India. The official bookings for Tata Nexon have already started at the Tata dealerships across the country. This compact SUV will be launched with both petrol and diesel engine options. Thanks to the availability of the petrol variant, the Tata Nexon will offer a tough competition to Maruti Suzuki Brezza, the segment leader with diesel engine option only.
Tata Motors have not revealed any information on the Tata Nexon price in India. But it is believed to be priced very strategically to earn a strong share and position in the compact SUV segment in India.

Tata Nexon Petrol Variant
Tata Motors has ensured that Tata Nexon never misses on power. For which, they have chosen the Revotron 1.2L Turbocharged Petrol engine that is capable to produce a maximum power output of 110 PS @ 5000 rpm, and a maximum torque output of 170NM @ 2000-4000 rpm. The 3-cylinder 1198c petrol engine is coupled with 6-Speed Manual Transmission gearbox. A 5-speed AMT variant is expected to be launched later.
The 1.2L Revotron petrol engine has already proved its worth on the Tata Tiago and Tigor earlier.
This comes as good news for all the potential buyers of Tata Nexon as the automakers are not going to use any smaller/down-turned petrol engine for their upcoming compact SUV. You will feel an instant power and response from the engine as soon as you put your right leg on the accelerator pedal. The petrol engine on the Tata Nexon gives you a confidence to throttle around the traffic and on the highways during quick overtakes.
Tata Nexon features three different driver modes – Eco, City and Sport, where each has the responsibility to control the acceleration. The Eco Mode lowers down the acceleration and engine response but boosts up fuel efficiency. The Sports mode will touch the maximum power of 110 PS, but will return you the lowest fuel efficiency. The City mode lies between the Eco and Sport drive mode. These modes change only the ECU, which changes the driving performance. Expect a mileage between 18kmpl to 20kmpl from this Revotron petrol engine.
Tata Nexon Diesel Variant
Tata Motors has developed a new 1.5L Revotorq Turbocharged diesel engine for their upcoming compact SUV – Tata Nexon. This engine has the potential to deliver a maximum power output of 110 PS @ 3750 rpm and a maximum torque output of 260 NM @ 1500-2750 rpm. This 4-cylinder 1496cc diesel engine is coupled with 6-speed manual transmission gearbox. A 6-speed automatic transmission is expected to be launched later this year.
People generally believe that a diesel engine is not as responsive as a petrol engine. But this is where – the Tata Nexon proves all the myths and beliefs to be wrong. The 1.5L turbocharged diesel engine is not weaker than the petrol engine on the Nexon. Rather, it comes as a big surprise that both petrol and diesel engines deliver similar power and performance without any lag.
The diesel engine performs great, both in city and on highways. Put your leg on the acceleration throttle, and the Nexon diesel variant won’t disappoint you. The driving modes found on the petrol variant are same on the diesel variants as well, and their duty also remains the same. Expect a mileage between 22kmpl to 25kmpl from this Revotorq diesel engine.
Tata Nexon Price in India
Currently, there is no official word on the price of Tata Nexon in India. We expect that both petrol and diesel engine variants will fall between the price brackets of Rs.7 lacs – Rs.10 lacs (Ex-Showroom) in India.
